Many people know that I am absolutely, irrevocably in love with all animals; but I have a few favorites.
I love:
Foxes
Doggies, (Dog is God spelled backwards. Coincidence? I think not.)
Piggly wiggly's,
Anteaters, and
Armadillos.
My love for armadillos started back in 1989 when the movie Steel Magnolias came out. It's one of my all time favorite movies-- ever. It's my "feel good" movie, my "sick movie" and my "I need a good cry" movie. I freaking love it and most of my vocabulary is comprised of quotes from Steel Magnolias. Well, in the movie, 'Shelby' wanted an armadillo grooms cake for her wedding; much like the one I am having at mine- no joke.
I love armadillos and there is just something about them that is so unique.
Anyway, Aaron's dad, Jim, went to China with a touring company at the beginning of November. When he got home he called Aaron to tell him what he brought back for me. Aaron wouldn't tell me what it was but kept teasing that I was going to "absolutely love it!"
Over Thanksgiving (which was amazing) Jim brought me out a little box. He was SO PROUD of himself. He said, and this is paraphrased because I don't remember the exact words as I had already started drinking, "We were on the tour bus and the guide told us we would be going to a place where they made all sorts of Chinese ornaments and trinkets, he said, 'they have lanterns, chopsticks, armadillos...' I stood up on the bus and told everyone before they did anything else they HAD to find me an Armadillo, I know you love them and I wasn't leaving with out that armadillo!"
The desserts!
Aaron's loot from China :)
Authentic Chinese Chopsticks
Also, while I was there celebrating Thanksgiving with a family I'm so lucky to be a part of, Linda, Aaron's mom, gave me the most beautiful hand knitted scarf. It's black with all sort of specks of color. How sweet is that? I've never really had anyone knit for me in my adult life...I am a lucky, lucky girl, oui?
