Photographic Friday

There are a few things Aaron and I have agreed to do lately: 1.) Play games instead of watch TV or do an independent activity when we get home from work. 2.) Go on a date every Monday night and 3.) Enjoy long walks in the morning.

We have stuck to it! I have to say, after a long day, coming home and playing a game with Aaron has improved our relationship. It helps me to unwind and prevents us from getting into deep discussions about the wedding, work, or other "life things" that people often spend too much time worrying about anyway. During the week we have such limited time and opposing schedules so we see each other for approximately two hours per day- we need to use this time wisely.

As for our dates: every Monday evening we either go out for a drink or do dinner somewhere. Usually it's just the two of us but, occasionally, we go with a friend or family member.

The mornings are my favorite: we get up early, saddle up the pups, and take them for a long walk before coming home to have a cup of coffee and get ready for the day ahead.

I'm loving this! However, school is starting soon. Hopefully we'll be able to keep this up when the world further challenges our schedules.

Sequence! We love this game. And yes, those are Swedish fish and Milk duds. Doesn't everyone eat those when they play games? For us, it's necessary!

Princess for the day? Oui!

Saturday July 25th was my bridal shower. It was one of the best days ever. A lot of planning went into that day and it was more than evident by how prepared my girls were. From the decorations, to the food, to the games and the plans- it was truly amazing. I hope everyone knows how appreciative I am. I honestly could not ask for better people in my life. I know I've said it a million times, but the past 3 years have been the best years of my life and I don't know what I did to be so blessed.

Me and my beautiful mother.

My darling sister, AKA "Maid of Honor"

Jaime, Nicki, Alyssa, Hilary (my 'maids') and Nickie- the rev...

My future M.I.L- love her!!!

Lyss- I have known her for 10 years!

Jaime 'Jammers' hosted the party at her home- Thank you, Jaimsss!!

One of my besties, Heather, from Antioch.

My party favors: Celosia flowers (they used to be called cockscomb- LOL-- my favorite annual for summer) and Quinn made chocolate and peanut butter lolly-pops in the shape of maple leafs for my favors. Not pictured is home brewed Chihuahua beer made by Reverend Nickie.

My mom and Lucia- and me (being a freak- I was just so excited)

One of my favorite dishes from The Pampered Chef... I got the trifle bowl as a gift too!

Some of the food- there was so much food there...

My 'maids' Alyssa and Hilary

I was digging in. I wasn't waiting for the crowd. MY FOOD!

Quinn and my sister. I have known Quinn for 23 years!! LOVE THEM!

Wednesday, Oui? My other "home"

I love camp. Not camping (which I also like) but "camp." For those of you who have that "special place" you know what I mean. Camp is my favorite place in the whole world. It's so rich with our family history and the only place that, no-matter-what, always brings me comfort and a feeling of nostalgia.

My mother and grandfather grew up in the area where our camp is. My Pepe built camp with his two hands. Every May-August and a few times in the winter we, as a family, would spend time at camp.

This year, I have to say, I was not looking forward to going on vacation to camp. My Pepe stated that he would not be going, due to his failing health. For the last 28 years of my life camp, to me, meant uninterrupted and unadulterated quality time with my Pepe- easily one of my favorite people in the world. How could I go to camp and stay in the camp he built with his two hands- if he wasn't going to be there?

I can't possibly get into a whole back story of what my Pepe means to me, how much I love and respect him and how, in so many ways, I credit him for how I live my life. I work everyday to make him proud. The fact that he is dying cuts me so deeply that I fear I will never be the same when he's gone.

This year, Pepe did come to camp. He made it up after all. The whole week there was a huge looming feeling that this will be his last year there, with us, and here, but I am so thankful that I was able to spend a full week in his company.

Camp turned out to be amazing. The weather was gorgeous, my entire family was there (not all at camp but most live in the area) and it was just what I needed. We kayaked, hiked, ate, went to the fair and did everything that happens at camp. This was just the vacation I needed to center me and remind me that my world is NOT; my career, my beautiful home, my tangibles, my structure, my perfectionism, my routine, or my planning. Instead my world IS; my family, friends (old and new) the smell of the water, the sound of loons, the feel of sand underneath my feet, my nephew's laugh, a hug from my sister, eggs from the farm, fair-food, an early morning kayak, jumping into the Kennebec, Pepe's rock, the BB-Q's, 'Schmellie', Dan's "how we doin?", my Pepe's stories, hiking to "our spot", the corner store, a cup of coffee on the porch feet from the water with the man I love--- a puppy on our lap, and my Pepe.

That, my friends, is my world. Oui?

Top Ten Tuesday

For this Tuesday (getting back into the swing of things) the TOP TEN things Aaron and I have been doing a LOT of lately:

10. Ignoring the internet, Facebook, (gasp) and most other forms of technology.
9. Worrying about the yard work the needs to be done.
8. Actually doing yard work
7. Enjoying an immensely relaxing week-long vacation at my family's camp in Maine full of all things wonderful; my sister, my Pepe, my family, kayaking, hiking, swimming, eating......
6. Tending to our "beasts." (We have been taking the dogs on an hour long walk in the morning then coming home to enjoy a cup of java together before jumping into the daily grind.)
5. Reading... all sorts of stuff.
4. Planning our upcoming vacations (Tanglewood with the Molloy's, another trip "upta" camp, and a weekend getaway to relax and enjoy a massage/facial/pedicure-- okay the last two are for me [this trip will be our last hurrah as "singletons" before the wedding])
3. Playing board games, specifically; Bananagrams (thanks Kaleena & Ray!!!!)
2. Planning the wedding. Did I mention planning the wedding?
1. Refocusing on what is really important in life (ie: not money or careers or tangibles, but things like family, health, relationships, self-care etc...).

Grrrr! (Post 1 of 2 for tonight)

For the last 72 minutes I have been trying, unsuccessfully, to upload pictures from my bridal shower to this dang thing. I keep getting an error message every time! It's so frustrating! Now that I'm back in the "blogging mood" I can't even get a picture to post!!! What gives?

To add to my annoyance, I just checked my email and I received a message from Vista Print (a popular online printing company) that read:

Vista Print..........Fill you basket with BIG savings!!!

Can you spot the fail? What I find a bit more alarming is that I just had them print up the thank you cards for my bridal shower. FML. Those had better be PERFECT!!! Doesn't anyone proof read anything anymore?

As soon as blogger is working properly expect to see a lot more of me... until then... keep checking back my friends!

Happy Birthday Lyssy!

Happy Birthday to one of my "bestest-friends-in-the-whole-wide-world." You know I love you more than life and I am so glad to have you. I'm thankful that you're one of the only people who knows all the dirty little details of my life (less people to kill off when I run for public office *wink*) and probably one of the few friends I have that would make this much of a mess for me at what was practically midnight. You are truly a necessity for me and I adore you!!!! I hope you had a great day!

Say What? "I'm up!"

I am an early riser and require very little sleep. Well, actually, that's a lie. I require a lot of sleep but for some reason my body doesn't allow it. Aaron, on the other hand, could sleep his life away and still wake up yawning.

Often times, for whatever reason, our sleep schedules don't coincide with one another. So, if one of us is sleeping and the other is up, we will begin our charades.

J: (pouncing loudly into the room) Yawwwwnnnnnnnnn!
A: (Silence. No movement.)
J: (slithering into bed) I'm up!
A: (groggily with eyes still closed) I can hear that.
J: I'm up. I'm up! (making direct eye contact so he knows I mean business)
A: Yeah, I have a feeling I am now too.

Wednesday, Oui? Planning

Hello my friends:

I have not given up on this blog and I hope you haven't given up on me ;)
I have been so incredibly busy with work and gearing up for vacation, it has also just occurred to us that we are getting married in about 65 days. So you know what that means? Crunch time!!! Most of our free time is devoted to planning and finalizing and decision making and coordinating and........

Unfortunately, given that, this blog has fallen by the wayside. I assure you, once the dust settles we will be back blogging more often than you care to read ;)

In the meantime, I am working on a post about my beautiful bridal shower, with plenty of pictures (and that recipe you all want.)

In the meantime, keep checking back- we'll be up and running soon :)

As busy as it is, we are loving life and planning for the big day. Oui?
