Dirty Dancing after a long hard day

On our way to go skiing the other day, Aaron was making fun of the radio station I was listening too. We were out in the middle of nowhere, so our options were fairly limited. Alas, we were listening to 94.9 WHOM (and those of you who listen to that station I know you just sang the stations' call letters.) Aaron said to me, "is there any where this station doesn't come in?" because we listened to it on our way to Maine, Vermont, Canada, and Keene, NH. What can I say? It broadcasts from the top of Mt. Washington. Not my fault.

WHOM, as some may know, plays easy listening, good, old stuff mixed in with the lighter new stuff. It is the radio station I grew up on. Both of my parents listen to it, so I pretty much feel like I was raised by the D.J's and live by John Tesh's- Intelligence for your life. So my point? I know almost every song, verbatim, that comes on the radio. It's not a skill, it is just rote memory as I have heard them so many times.

On our way back from the ski area, a song came on the radio, and I said, "ohhh, I wore out my Dirty Dancing soundtrack listening to this song." And Aaron, said "Yeah, you know that movie by heart, why haven't we played that soundtrack at home?" I explained that I only owned it in a cassette, and it had been worn out from over-listening. End of story (or so I thought.)

I came home last night after working a 12-hour-day to find Aaron playing video games. I was a bit put out because he didn't get up to greet me at the door, something we always do, but didn't make a big deal about it because the house was spotless. I walked over to the table (as I do every night to check the mail- I am such a creature of habit) to find 4 brand new batteries for my camera that he must have purchased for me earlier that day. I was so happy because, although I have rechargeable batteries, I only have 6 and I think they are getting old because they don't hold a charge for very long. I was so grateful and appreciative that he took the time to go out and get me new ones.

I sit down on the couch next to him, waiting for American Idol to rewind (yes I got home that late and yes, Aaron taped it. It's a guilty pleasure for both of us.) Suddenly, the CD player clicks off from Spoon and I hear the first bar of an old familiar song. My heart flutters. It is the first song from the soundtrack I memorized years ago. Dirty Dancing. He bought it for me. The 20th Anniversary Edition Soundtrack! I felt warm and fuzzy all over. I love this movie. This movie one of my "sick" movies. When ever I am sick, Aaron knows to bring me either Dirty Dancing or Overboard.

As I make my way upstairs to change out of my work clothes, grinning ear to ear, I walk past my skis to find that Aaron has brought home a carrier to hold them securely, and cut my poles down to the size I needed. As I walk upstairs to change I lip sync to Be My Baby.

You know, I write a lot about Aaron and the things we do together, still, there are many, many things he does for me. The majority of them I do not share here (along with a lot of other things I do not share as I am pretty private and like to keep those memories safe, secret, sacred and pure.) But sometimes, he just blows me away. Sometimes, for no-reason-what-so-ever he will get excited at how "beautiful I am" and yell it out in the middle of the kitchen. He is my biggest fan and I think EVERY person needs one of those.

He is totally my Johnny Castle and wouldn't let anyone put his baby in the corner ;)
