Now as many of you know, my mother and step-father live on a farm in the armpit of Maine. Both are "farmers" and "Mainers" in every sense of the word. Although they do have day jobs, my mother is a nurse and Dan is a woodsman, farming is their true calling. They live a very simple life and just got cable for the first time a few months ago. Technology does not agree with them, or I should say, they don't agree with technology.
Relevant History: 7 years ago my mother got a new vehicle. She called me in a tizzy because she couldn't fit her Barbara Streisand tape into the "tape deck" of her new car. I know I don't even need to go any further with this because, as we all know, her new car came equipped with a Compact Disc player. This is what we are dealing with here. These people still don't get the concept of "debit cards."
So, I get a call from my sister the other day. She is laughing hysterically and proceeds to tell me about a conversation she just had with Dan, our step-father. Back story: Mom and Dan finally decided to get a computer this Christmas. Now, when it comes to technology, call my sister or my brother. I am numb as a fart with that stuff. I can do what I can do, but when it comes to troubleshooting, I know who to call. So my mother and Dan are always calling poor Nicki to get over-the-phone tutorials on how to work their T.V, computer, answering machine, DVD player etc. So Nicki explains the conversation she just had, and it goes as follows.
Dan was trying to do something on the computer and Nicki was on the phone instructing him:
Nicki: Okay, so take the mouse and move it over what you want.
Dan: Okay.
Nicki: Now right click.
(pause)
Dan: Okay.
Nicki: What happened?
Dan: Nothing.
Nicki: Okay try again. Right click on it.
Dan: Okay!
Nicki: Still nothing? hmmm. Try one more time.
(Nicki, listening, hears a tap-tap-tap noise)
Nicki: What exactly are you doing?
Dan: I'm writing (typing) the word click!!!!!!!!!!!

That is the funniest thing I have heard in a long time! Seriously, I have tears streaming down my face!
It certainly is Wednesday, Oui!
I have told this story all day long - everyone I talked to thinks it is just as hysterical as I do!
