Aaron and I try to be as 'green' as possible.
These are the efforts we make:
- We flush selectively.
- Most of our batteries are rechargeable.
- We use towels more than once before washing them.
- In public restrooms, we try dry our hands naturally by using only time.
- We recycle, even when it is not convenient.
- We read/learn about environmental issues.
- I own some second-hand & re-used clothing.
- We donate old clothes and other items instead of throwing them away.
- We (I) will have no more than 1 child, or I will adopt additional children.
- We carry mugs for drinks we buy 'to go.'
- We reuse bags (both paper and plastic.)
- We do not have gasoline bonfires.
- Aaron commutes to Manchester (22 mi. each way) on his bicycle whenever possible.
- We talk to our friends about living green.
- We encourage our students/co-workers to recycle.
- We do not leave the water running while doing dishes/brushing our teeth.
- We do not own any personal motorized watercraft, aircraft, or a hummer.
- We live in a space smaller than 1000 square feet (per person.)
- We do load appropriate laundry.
- We take showers in under 5 minutes.
- We do not leave lights on unnecessarily.
- We use energy efficient light bulbs.
- In our search for a new vehicle, we have been considering a hybrid. (although I have my heart set on a Saab wagon.)
- We use a digital camera.
All this considered, we have been able to decrease our waste to one 13 gallon bag every two weeks. What are you doing to protect the environment?
"Treat the earth well: it was not given to you by your parents, it was loaned to you by your children. We do not inherit the Earth from our Ancestors, we borrow it from our Children."
-Ancient Native Proverb.
