On Friday, I got my passport in the mail. I sent away for it, rush order, because I need it for our trip Montreal after Christmas. Strangely, it gave me a huge sense of satisfaction. I have
always wanted to travel extensively, but was unable to in the past for reasons that I won't get into here, but now there is nothing stopping me (us).
Seeing that blue book, my ticket to anywhere, not only acknowledges a future of unknown possibilities, but also represents that I belong *somewhere*. I am a citizen of the United States of America. There isn't anywhere I would rather be. I realize how privileged I am to live here. I love my country. It's home.

You're gonna regret having it when you have to bail me out of a Mexican jail.
