Wednesday, Oui? Happy Halloween!

It's no secret that Halloween is MY VERY FAVORITE HOLIDAY (yes, I'm yelling!)

This year was Toby's first Halloween! And wouldn't you gnome, he was pretty awesome. (I'm so punny!)

And of course, Bing and Manny weren't about to be upstaged

Happy "Hall-o-'oui'-n" from our family to yours!

Toby: 5 Months

On Tuesday October 23rd, Mr. Mister turned 5 months-old. I can't believe he has been here that long. He's so awesome and he changes every day!

Here are Toby's most recent stats: (Yes, I'm still recording everything... like the nerd I am!)
  • He has had 1071 diaper changes!
  • He drinks a whopping 5 oz. per meal (approx. 30 ounces per day!!)
  • He is very alert and aware of his surroundings.
  • His little bum still fits into size two diapers and he's mostly in 3-6 month clothing.
  • His favorite things in the whole world are: books, Sophie (the giraffe), the dogs, his "calm down jar," the word "what," and his Mama and Daddy!
  • We bring him outside (A LOT) and he really likes it.
  • His naps are MUCH shorter during the day (maybe 30-40 minutes a few times per day) but, he STILL sleeps like a champ! (8-10 hours at night.)
  • He wore his first Halloween costume (the big reveal coming on Halloween!)
  • He loves to have books read to him. Seriously, it's not wishful thinking. He has even started turning the pages!
  • He can sit for long period of time (with assistance) and hold his head up like it's his job.
  • ... on the rolling front he's a bit lazy!
  • He is still sleeping in his mini-crib in our room. He's fast growing out of it so we will soon have to have the dreadful discussion where Aaron and I move him to his own crib in his own room! (Boooo, hissss!!)
  • We did a lot of traveling in the past month and he handled it with ease. He's such a good baby.
  • This month will probably be THE month we start Mister on solids!
  • Toby is babbling a ton and really trying to form words. We shoot for 30,000 words per day. I had read somewhere that you should speak 20,000 words to children under 3 years old every day to maximize language... I was recently corrected by a friend and the studies now indicate 30,000 words! So, I've had to add some nonsense to my language "Mama is going to do some laundry. Look at Daddy's dirty sock! A sock goes on your foot. You have TWO feet, Toby!" Ah, the things we do for our children!
  • No teeth yet! But, he's drooling like Pavlov's dog so I assume any day! He has been successfully wearing his Baltic amber necklace for 2 months. I really wanted him to be used to it before he needed it. He's used to it now; he doesn't play with it or grab at it anymore, so... teeth can come any day!
  •
Updates on Mama and Daddy:
  • Mama HATES to go to work and I'm really busy now... which sucks (but it's good for the pocketbook!)
  • I signed on to teach another course next semester; an Ethics course... fun, fun!
  • I'm back in my PRE-pregnancy jeans. Yeah, they're tight but, I can button them and that's all that matters.
  • Mama and Daddy got rid of the television. Can you believe it? A big step. We just wanted to simplify life and spend more quality time as a couple/family. It's nice to relax with books instead of incessant noise in the background.
  • Daddy is busy in the basement woodworking all sorts of masterpieces for Christmas.
  • Daddy has been doing a lot of yard work too; getting things ready for the fall/winter.
  • I have pumped 116 oz. of breast milk from my milk-jugs. I'm going to keep trying to give him my milk as long as I can!
I have been really terrible about blogging this month so below, find Toby's month/travels in pictures!

Playing with leaves in Vermont

He made his first trip to the Vermont Country Store
(later that day he "saw" his first hot air balloon, too!)

We took some pictures by a local lake

And he was so handsome in his hat and sweater his Nana made him.

He wore spiked hair and a "shirt and tie!"

He hung out by the campfire at Mimi's house.

He completed his first corn maize!

He sat in a "corn box" and loved it!

We went pumpkin picking for the first time!

He looked dapper in a "faux-hawk!"

Until he crapped his pants; then he wasn't so dapper!

He rocked a fake mustache... looking like Gomez Addams!

And he played in the fall leaves (while Mama worried about deer ticks!)

He's a little dude with a huge personality. His smile is infectious. I really can't believe he is our kid and I can't imagine my life without him. To sound totally cliche, he completes us. I am absolutely obsessed with him!

A Oui from me, Toby!

Hi Folks, Toby here. I just figured I'd sign on to wish my Mama and Daddy a Happy 3rd Anniversary. As you can see, in preparation of tonight's festivities, I'm wearing my Sunday best. I've even tried a little something new with my hair; it's my understanding that what I've done is called "spiking."

I have a great night planned for my parents. I figure it's the least I can do given that if it wasn't for them being married and all, I probably wouldn't be here. So, I have tonight all planned out.

When Daddy gets home from work, Mama and I will give him the pictures of me that were taken last weekend. Oh yeah, and there's a stiff piece of paper that we're supposed to give him too. I really don't get it but, Mama put a funny object in my hand and had me do something to it with a color. Then she closed it up kind of like a book and put it in a paper blanket. (I'm going to whisper what she did next because I don't know if what she did next was something I should have seen) she licked it all around the edges!! I won't tell Daddy if you don't!

Then I plan on sitting at the table with them while they have what Daddy calls a "romantic dinner." He mentioned a menu but I admit that I wasn't really listening; I have only a little interest in the food they eat and I was playing with Sophie so I just nodded my head like I understood. I'll get leftovers when Mama nurses me anyway. I'm not too worried about missing anything there.

Soooooooo, after dinner is when the real fun begins. First, they are going to read me a few of my new Halloween books. They read to me all the time and they say I'm going to be really smart. That's a good thing, right? After that I'll let them just sit and stare at me while they say things like: "How cute is he?" and "can you believe he's ours?" and "was that just a fart or did it sound juicy to you?" I'm not really sure what any of those things mean but I know they're good because they always seem really happy with me.

At some point they will feed me and snuggle me. We'll play my music and do tummy time. We will play with my puppies too, I just love to do that. I may fill a few diapers and then the day will come to an end when they wrap me up tight and snuggle me before I lay in my bassinet for the "long sleep" (I say long sleep because that's when I go to sleep for like 8-10 hours. Mama and Daddy say this is really nice of me, so I guess it's a good thing.)

So, you see, I've planned a nice night for them and will let them play with me all night long. I just love my Mama and Daddy so much. I mean, they do everything for me. I'm never sad so I think the least I could do would be to let them do all my favorite things tonight, right?

Okay, that's all from me for now. I'm thinking I need a nap but first I can probably get Mama to read me Corduroy's Halloween. Have you read it? It's awesome! Sometimes, I'll grab at one of the pages with what Mama calls "showing an interest in reading" and she will get really excited. Usually if I "show interest" she'll read me several more books in a row!! I guess if I want to read Clifford and the Halloween Parade too, I better "show interest."

Later!
Toby

Wednesday Oui? Oui

Today is our three year anniversary. Three blissful years.

Many wonderful things have happened in the past 3 years but one thing stands above all.

Aaron, I couldn't ask for a better partner than what I have in you. I could not ask for a better father for our son. I have learned more about life and love in the past three years than I ever imagined.

Happy Anniversary, Babe. You have given me the world.

Texts from the Stratosphere

No, the second layer of the Earth's atmosphere is not sending me messages. I thought I'd be clever with the title because my phone is a "Samsung Stratosphere."

I have amazing, intelligent and hilarious friends. Many people know my preferred method of communication is texting and I have a handful of people in my life that I text often. The other night I was bored so I started reading some of my old text messages as I was getting ready to delete them. Then I had the brilliant idea of publishing the random ones that made me laugh out loud. I think I may start a new "Texts from the Stratosphere" segment.

Below are verbatim texts I have taken from my inbox. To protect the innocent I have removed any identifying information. I'll use the initials FT= Funny Texter and FR= Funny Responder. In the below conversations I am either the Texter or the Responder.

*****

FT: "Do you ever smell the armpits of your clothes to see if it's time for a wash?"
FR: "Haha. Yes! All the time. or the ass of pants..."

*****

FT: "What lotion does ______ use for eczema? ______ feels like a fucking alligator."

*****

(After a friend signed up for Pinterest)
FT: "Dude. I'm like Charlie Sheen except I'm pinning!! haha"

*****

FT: "We are warm by the fire. shelling beans. the dry ones for baking."
(Wait, what?)

*****

FT: "... Me too except I forgot lettuce. I'll trade you a cuke and a large piece of chocolate cake with white coconut frosting for enough lettuce for a sandwich."
FR: "I think that sounds fair..."
(That doesn't sound anywhere near fair!)

*****

FT:"Thanks for leaving all that stuff in the trunk. and grapes are on sale."
FR: "No prob. And NO grapes!!" (FR saw a news article about black widow spiders hiding in grapes.)
FT: "I am watching some couple argue in Russian it's awesome,"
FR: "LOL. Don't forget candy."
FT: "Shit."
FR: "Don't come home without candy."

(I think it's pretty easy to figure out who was who in that one)

*****

FT: "Flax... you must shit like clockwork!"
FR: "Yep"
*****

FT: "I have some cigarette smelling dude giving me an estimate for carpet here now. Gag me."
FR: "LOL"
FT: "Ok, he's gone. And he didn't kill me."

*****

(A girlfriend and I discussing, via text, our poor body image and FUPAS after having children)

FT: "... My blubber belly is so unattractive"
FR: "Exactly. I used to be pristine and now (husband) comes home from work my hair is a mess, I probably haven't showered, the house is a wreck and I'm like (sexy voice) heyyyyy..."

*****

(Going back and forth between Facebook messaging and texting with one individual)

FT: "Ohhhh gotta see ... I was just FB messaging you about that."
FR: "Dude, we're working with too many different types of technology right now."

*****

(And then the winner for the most random/disgusting text goes to [drum roll......])

"Yeah. I vowed a while ago never to eat his food after he took a smelly shit and then made a salad without hand washing."
