A Oui from Toby: Easter

Hi Folks,

So, my Mama has been buzzing all around the house talking about something called Easter. I'm not certain what that is but, I know she is making a big HUGE deal about what I'm going to wear. (I heard her tell my dad what he was going to wear, too. I saw him roll his eyes when she left the room. Don't tell, okay?) She also put up all these decorations. I remember her doing that a couple of times before and it usually means presents for me so, I thought that was pretty cool. I like her swinging bunnies. She said I can't play with them though. I guess they aren't toys. There were made in a barn. A barn that makes pottery too. I'm not allowed to play with pottery either.

I had chicken for breakfast this morning.

Oh my God. So, the other night, my Mama got all excited and danced around the kitchen. She said something about me getting a letter from a bunny. She read it to me and it sounded pretty good. I was psyched to think that I was going to get a basket of toys soon. I don't know how that rabbit knew things about me but, he did.

Okay, so then today, I get all packed up and my Mama said we were going to meet the Easter Bunny. Can you believe it? I was going to meet a real-life-rabbit!

I liked him. He was fuzzy.

Then he tickled me. And I didn't like him anymore. So, I cried. Mama held me and sang me our song at the mall. That made things better. Then she walked me all around the mall in my stroller. She bought a lot of things. All of them were for me. We went into a lot of stores. She had a lot of bags that made funny crinkly noises. Then we walked by the bunny again. I cried. So she brought me home and I had a nap.

I hope the Easter Bunny doesn't tickle you!

Love,
Toby

A Toby Oui: On the mend

Hi Folks,

So, you've probably heard by now that I've been really sick. I actually got everyone sick. Mama, Daddy, Mimi, Papa, Uncle Man-hair, I-ya... pretty much everyone I saw over the weekend. Mama said I was super outrageous... or canofjuice... or something like that.

I'm on the mend now but, boy was that a doozy! I sure did throw up and poop a lot. My Nana even had to come over with food because Mama, Daddy and I were so sick!

On the plus side, I got a lot of baths. So, you know, that was cool. I have a scuba ducky that goes in my bath. I'll tell you about him next time. I like him. I like baths.

I hung out in my robe. Isn't it fancy? Me and Llama slept a lot. Llama said he was sick too but he seemed fine to me.

But, now that I'm feeling better, it's back to work for me.

Chores, chores, chores!
Someone has to be in charge of the upkeep around this joint.

See you soon!
Love,
Toby

PS: Mama said she'll post about my baptism soon. She said she's still not feeling 100 pocket-cents. Or was it pocket-dollar? Purse-coin? Purse-cent? Something like that.

Poopsense (Not Poop Scents!)

When you're a mom you have what I call a poopsense. It's not part of the more well known senses; it's the seventh sense. It's usually immediately preceded by the sixth sense. The sense that says..."Oh, crap. My baby (just, is about to, needs to) poop!" I can usually predict when my son will poop (within a 20 minute window.) I call it my poopsense.

This morning something happened that, an hour later, I am still laughing about.

Let me set the scene: I was ironing my work clothes, Toby was playing like a jolly little boy in his exersaucer, and Aaron was in the bathroom getting ready for work. It was my sense of hearing that first picked up on a telltale grunt coming from the exersaucer. Then my sixth sense kicked in and I thought, "something is going to happen." That's when my poopsense became alert.

T: (grunting)
J: Are you pooping? Try to go poops!
A: (from the bathroom) NO (shocked and defensive) I'M JUST PEEING. I DON'T HAVE TO GO POOPS!

I couldn't stop laughing long enough to tell my husband that my poopsense doesn't work on adults.

Photographic Friday: Toby's two cents!

Hi Folks!

So, I wanted to tell a funny story.

The other day my Mama gave me a bath. It was a fun bath. Have I told you that I have a rubber ducky? He has a snorkel. I like him.

What was I saying? Oh yeah. So, I got this bath. It was a fun bath. My ducky sometimes squirts water at me and I laugh and laugh. And, um.. Wait...

Oh yeah. So, I had this bath. It was fun. Mama said we were going to go somewhere fun so she spiffed me all up nice. Jeepers she puts a lot work into making sure I'm clean! That's why she gives me baths. Baths are fun. I have a ducky in my bath. It's a scuba ducky. He squirts water. I love when he does that.

Where was I? Oh yes. My bath! No, that's not right... Oh, I know. So, I get all spiffed up nice and handsome like.

Then I pooped. A really big poop. It was up my back and on my shirt. Then, when Mama was trying to change me, I peed. I got pee all over my pants and shoes. Mama said something about only my socks being "salvageable."

Then she gave me another bath. I like baths. I have this ducky and he squirts water at me. He wears a snorkel. I like him. I like baths.

Bye!
Love,
Toby XOXO

Toby's flock of seagulls

Toby has a wild head of hair. It's long and dark and super super soft. It reminds me of a rabbit fur (or duck feathers.) About 2 weeks ago, I figured with his baptism fast approaching, I should give Toby a little trim. I reasoned that because I worked in a salon for a few years (answering phones) I probably picked up a few things about cutting hair.

Before Mama butchered his hair. Look at that flock of seagulls! (He's too interested in his cracker to look at the camera!)

After I "tried" to cut his hair.

It came out terribly. I was devastated.

So, I immediately made an appointment to get his haircut at the salon I used to work at with the only person I allow to touch my hair. I was really worried that he was going to FREAK out. Having worked at a salon one thing I did pick up on was seeing a lot (like a huge amount) of babies/children freak out when they got their locks lopped off.

Toby, per usual, was perfect. I think a lot of it had to do with the fact that Sue (my dear friend, ex-boss and stylist) just has that magic touch. He didn't squirm, cry or make his cut difficult. He was in true Toby form.

Afterward, we made a whole day of it. Daddy and I brought him to one of our favorite haunts for lunch (Dos Amigos) and then strolled around downtown Concord, stopping at the candy store and the toy store. It was not at all traumatic for him.

Me, on the other hand...
